10 Best Cat Litter Boxes

Owning a cat can be a really great experience. They’re always doing something interesting – even if that means pushing stuff off of tables and counters – and you get a small, furry friend to have around constantly!

One of the major downsides: caring for the litter box. Owning a litter box in general isn’t very fun because it ends up smelling.

Cleaning it up and adding new litter only makes this process even less fun than before.

Some litter boxes make it easier for you to clean up by having trays you can full out or being disposable, while others help keep the odors at bay.

This article is going to list the 10 best-selling cat litter boxes on Amazon for you to choose from!

These are some of the litter boxes that will help make cleaning up your cat’s litter box much less of a task you want to avoid at all costs – but must eventually do – to one where it is like most other chores.

So, let’s take a look at what are currently the best-selling litter boxes and what people say about them!

Van Ness Cat Pan - Medium

10- Van Ness Cat Pan – Medium

This cat pan is probably going to be the simplest of all the litter boxes on this list.

This box is made for kittens or small cats who need an easier way to enter and exit the box. It is also very easy to clean.

This pan is 16 x 12 x 4 inches big for reference as to how small it is.

It’s really made for kittens to use, although Van Ness has other size cat pans available for you to pick from!

It is, however, also prefer for those who don’t have a lot of space or who just want a plain and simple pan to use. Get it now on

Petmate Top Entry Litter Pan

9- Petmate Top Entry Litter Pan

As the name of the product states, this litter box has an opening in the lid for your cat to use so a dog won’t dig in the litter and your cat can feel as if they have some privacy.

A few additional features that are great about this product:

  • grating on lid makes litter fall back into the pan
  • built-in handles
  • molded hook to store your litter scoop
  • no liner needed due to its size!

Speaking of the size of the box, there’s one thing that may fool you about the name: it isn’t a pan.It looks closer to a storage bin you would use to store your things in the garage.

This makes it ideal for those with larger cats and keeps clean-up a little simpler. This is a great product to get for larger cats because of its size, if you have dogs in the house, and if you want an easy-to-clean litter box. Get it now on

Kitty's WonderBox Disposable Litter Box

8- Kitty’s WonderBox Disposable Litter Box

This particular litter box comes in a medium size that you can buy individually or in a 3 pack. This litter box is meant to not leak or tear and it also functions as odor control, a litter box liner, and a disposable litter box. Each box is meant to last for 4 weeks at a time.

One really nice advantage to this product is that it means you don’t need to use disinfectants and the recycled paper’s pH helps to neutralize the ammonia odor. Many reviewers noted how it didn’t seem to keep much to any of the odor that would normally come from their cat’s litter box.

This is an especially good purchase if you are moving or going on vacation and need a friend to watch your cat. It’s also great for the lazy cat owners – you just need to keep up with scooping it out and you replace the entire box every 4 to 6 weeks. Nice and simple! Get it now on

Van Ness Sifting Enclosed Cat Litter Pan

7- Van Ness Sifting Enclosed Cat Litter Pan

This litter box looks a bit like a cat carrier in shape. It even has a handle on the top so you can more easily move it where you need to, when you need to! This litter pan is perfect for owners who want a litter scoop free box with great odor control.

A few of the features and design of the box includes:

  • an odor door
  • a replaceable zeolite air filter
  • odor and stain resistant finish on the box
  • 2 boxes for the bottom of the box, a shifter, and the lid

So you’ll be inclined to have the two bottom boxes stacked on top of one another. The reviewers have mentioned many times that this is what you shouldn’t do because waster can end up clumping in the edges of the sifter.

Instead, they have recommended that you keep the sifter in between both boxes. This way, when it comes time to pull the sifter out, you simply pour the litter over the sifter and have it go into the box on the bottom, you throw away the waste, place the sifter on the new empty box, and stack it all back up again!

This product is great for people who are looking for a pretty low maintenance litter box with no scooping needed! Get it now on

Self Cleaning Litter Box

6- Self-Cleaning Litter Box

This litter box by Omega Paw is another very easy to clean type of litter box. The waste will collect in the pullout tray, making it much easier to clean out.

The design makes it so you roll the box to all the way to the right then all the way to the left and place it back down.

This box has a grill that separates the clean litter from the waste left behind, which stays in the scoop. You then pull the scoop out of the box and throw away the waste left behind.

Simple as that! You don’t need any liners or your own scoop with this product. You’ll save a lot of time from cleaning up your cat’s box by using this product! Get it now on

Litter Genie Plus Cat Litter Disposal System

5- Litter Genie Plus Cat Litter Disposal System

Alright, so maybe this isn’t a litter box. But it still earned its place on this list because of how much easier it will make caring for your litter box!

This disposal system is fantastic at locking away all the litter and odor, making your life just a little bit better. Another great bonus about this litter box: it can hold up to 2 weeks of litter for a single cat, meaning less trips to take out the trash!

It comes with a scooper, holder, and one cartridge to start you off. You use it by opening the small top lid, scoop the used litter into the opening, and pull the front tab out. This makes it all fall to the bottom of the Genie, which is lined with the plastic bag.

It uses a Litter Genie Standard Refill cartridge to keep the odor and germs locked away with its seven-layer bag. These last for about 8 weeks and then need to be replaced.

Standing at 8.5 inches tall, the Litter Genie Plus can be stored almost anywhere and is the perfect compact size for people in an apartment. Get it now on

Nature's Miracle Advanced Corner Hooded Cat Litter Box

4- Nature’s Miracle Advanced Corner Hooded Cat Litter Box

To get back to the litter boxes, this one comes with an odor control charcoal filter and has a non-stick surface to make cleaning easier.

This one is also more unique than the other litter boxes on this list because it is quite literally made to be in a corner. It is in the shape of a triangle, making it much easier to keep your cat’s business out of site.

Although it doesn’t have a door on it, it still keeps the smell down very well. It also makes it easier to prevent any dust kick up when you are scooping the litter because you don’t need to take the hood off.

You just have to be aware of how high you fill the box because it may end up spilling out if it gets filled up too high.

This is definitely the box for those who live in a small space with a good corner to put this 17-inch box in and who want a box that helps keep the odor and dust to a minimum. Get it now on

Nature's Miracle High-Sided Litter Box

3- Nature’s Miracle High-Sided Litter Box

This litter box has, as the name notes, high sides to help prevent any litter from being spread outside of the box. It also has a non-stick surface to make cleaning easier.

A great advantage this litter box has over others is that the opening is low enough for cats with arthritis and other problems to use it with no issue.

It also has molded handles and a pour spout as part of the opening to make the changing of litter much easier for you to do. However, this opening and spout can, in a sense, confuse your cats as they think it is part of the box and use it instead.

This can potentially be fixed by making the back of the box have more litter in it. But some cats are stubborn, so keep track of it when you can.

Overall, however, this box is perfect for older cats, cats that can’t move well, or for cats who tend to do make their pee and litter go over the sides of other boxes. Get it now on

Tidy Cats Cat Litter

2- Tidy Cats Cat Litter, Breeze, Litter Box Kit System

This is the only kit in this top 10, but it is still the number 2 best seller for cat litter boxes on Amazon! Inside this kit is:

  • The litter box
  • A scoop
  • 1 bag of pellets (lasts 3-6 months)
  • 1 bag with 4 disposable cat pads

The litter box itself helps separate out the liquid and solid waste with a tray on the underside of the box. This also helps to keep the odor down and it is where the disposable cat pads go. For a single cat, these pads last up to a week.

The pellets that come with this kit replace typical litter so that it won’t end up following your cat out of the box. They also help control the odor of the solid waste as well.

Once these pellets have been used up, you dump these pellets and add in a new bag. Some reviewers recommend adding in two bags worth of pellets to make sure the smell stays down better.

This is a great box for anyone who wants an easy to clean box with great odor control and that doesn’t need litter replacement every few weeks. Get it now on

Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Litter Pan

1- Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Litter Pan – Warm Grey

This is, without a doubt, the best litter box of the bunch – excepting the ones that fit your cat better or course, like the high-sided litter box.

This litter box is pretty large – 22 inches long by 17 inches wide – with a hood that both gives your cat privacy and makes cleaning easier. It even has a handle on it to make it easier to move around!

It also has a carbon filter to help remove odors even more. It has a flap door in the front that you can take off if your cats would rather have an open door – but it does need to be done carefully.

In any case, it helps keep majority of the cat litter inside the box – although some will still be stuck to your cat’s paws when they leave.

This is a great box to use if you have a larger cat or if you have multiple cats in your home. It’s easy to scoop out, is very spacious for bigger cats, and has higher walls to prevent any leakage from inside to outside of the cat box. Get in on

So, you now know about 10 very well-made and received boxes. As you read, there is a variety in the size, brand, and type of litter box for you to pick from.

Of course, some are more expensive than others on this list, but this is because they have more features that are meant to make it easier to use and cuts out liners in some cases.

  • Lately, I was on the search for a good litter box to purchase for my cat, but I got the wrong one. This is a detailed review, and I think I’ll be on the look out for the Tidy Cats cat litter, breeze, litter box system with its cats disposable pads. Hopefully, it’ll serve my cat right.

  • I had to come back here to drop my opinion about the Nature’s Miracle High-Sided Litter Box after getting one for my lady cat through the link you provided in the great article. The Nature’s Miracle High-Sided Litter Box non-stick surface makes use and cleaning so easy I no longer feel lazy whenever the thought of cleaning her pan before and after each meal. Great article

  • I actually picked up number 7 today from Walmart and later found it cheaper on Amazon. Oop! I am going to likely get a second one anyways. Not sure I like the flap but I do like the filter sponges on the top. I had never heard of a top-entry litter box. I am not sure how a cat would feel about using that. Seems odd!
